Word of Mouth

Having taken a bit of a break over the holidays from my obsessive blogging, I am looking forward to posting a bit more frequently in the coming weeks. With that said, I want to talk a bit this morning about how wonderful "word of mouth" can work in regards to generating traffic to all of your sites and blogs. When I say "word of mouth", I'm not just talking about online networks and the Blogosphere (although both of those should be a main priority), I am referring to any daily activities. Recently, I picked up a new part time job to supplement income during this fiscal downturn and have not been shy in regards to my writing career and business.

Lets face it, if you are any good with people in social situations you should have no trouble "advertising" your work. One of the things I like to do is update my MySpace or other networks with links to my sites/blogs so that people who meet me will have access to those things through regular channels. Honestly, I noticed after I networked a bit with people from my new employer that my MySpace page and blog hits spikes at an unparalleled level. Think about that for a minute. That is certified organic traffic from people who are "interested" in learning more about you and your business or activities. I don't know about you, but that is a win-win situation for anyone. Granted, it might be a good idea to delete anything incriminating (drunk pictures and the like) so you don't look like an ass.

Anyway, don't be afraid to try word of mouth advertising. To go a step further, look at some of the products you may have around your computer. Chances are at some point somebody recommended them to you, now apply that to your blog/site/business and watch your traffic spike! In the meantime, keep creating great content and have fun, after-all that is what it is all about!
